How to Transcribe a Zoom Meeting for Free (Privately)

A step-by-step guide to transcribing Zoom meetings for free, on your own device, without uploading anything to the cloud.

Zoom's own transcription is fine, but it requires the right plan and it stores transcripts in Zoom's cloud. Here's how to transcribe any Zoom call for free and keep the transcript entirely on your device.

Step 1 — Run Zoom in the browser

Open the meeting with the Zoom Web Client (zoom.us/wc) so the call lives in a browser tab you can share.

Step 2 — Capture the tab audio

  • Open Ledgeur and click 'Record meeting'
  • When prompted, choose the Zoom tab and tick 'Share tab audio'
  • Allow your microphone so your own voice is captured too

Step 3 — Get your notes

Ledgeur transcribes the call in your browser as it happens. When you stop, click Generate notes for a summary, decisions and action items, then export Markdown. Nothing was uploaded to Zoom or anyone else.

Try it on a meeting you have already recorded.

Drag a recording into Ledgeur and get a transcript with the speakers separated — in your browser, with nothing uploaded. Free, permanently, and no account needed.
